“Blue in the Face”
Charter Communications went to Davis Advertising to create a marketing campaign to
launch their new telephone service. In the past 5 years cable television companies have
entered the field of telephone service once monopolized by the traditional landline companies.
Introducing a new technology that was unproven to consumers by a company that was
not known for the being in the telephone business created huge hurdles for our marketing
campaign. Davis Advertising looked to create a campaign that would leap out of the box
with a message that was so unique in would catch everyone’s attention.
We created the highly successful “Blue in the Face” campaign. The campaign generated so much
attention and sales that it was quickly rolled out through out the entire east division of
Charter Communications. Outdoor, newspaper ads, flyers, point-of-purchase displays,
radio and TV made the blue man of Charter as famous as the hit Broadway show.
Today, one million telephone customers later, the “Blue in the Face” campaign has finally
been retired but still hails as one of the most successful campaigns in our 60-year history.
